For several years the City Of Modesto had been lobbying Amtrak and CalTrans to move the "Modesto" station stop from Riverbank to Modesto. In 1999 their efforts paid off when the brand new Modesto station opened for business on October 31, 1999.  After the opening, the Riverbank depot reverted to BNSF as sole occupant.	In Riverbank a sign announcing the location change was posted in the depot window.
