Interlude In Steam

It's May of 1984 and Southern Pacific 4449 is on its way to New Orleans to help celebrate for the World's Fair. But first a side trip to San Francisco Is in order. Passing Niles Tower and a large crowd of railfans, Extra 4449 East will become Extra 4449 West when it loops around the Bay in San Jose.

Up in the tower the OP has a great view of this blast from the past, and with no UP trains imminently due, is able to relax and enjoy this interlude in steam. (Ken Rattenne Photo)
